About Us

Backup is an organisation that has evolved and transformed as the needs and requirements of young people at risk have changed. Backup has expended to meet the demand for services but also increased the quality of the offer of services, diversified and remodelled services to have more positive impact.

Managing and embracing change is part of our organisational DNA and this is demonstrated in results; whatever we are faced with we always deliver.

Backup (Formerly Bolton Young Persons Housing Scheme) was set up in 1992 in partnership with Bolton Council and Irwell Valley Housing with one house in Daubhill.

We provide an opportunity for young people who are homeless to be safe, stable and develop skills for independence.

In doing so we see improvements in health and well-being, reduction in risk of harm, improvements in finances, increase in self-confidence, improvements in health both physical and mental, less exploitation, reduction in use of drugs or alcohol amongst other things.

OUR VISION

Backup North West believe no young person should experience homelessness.

For the young people that do, Backup aims to be an outstanding provider of high quality, holistic housing and support services.

Most, but not all, of our services are accommodation based. We deliver a range of services that include temporary and emergency accommodation, support, advice and guidance with 2 aims:

Preventing homelessness

Increasing independent living skills

What We Do!

BACKUP provide multiple services across Bolton to young people aged 16-25 years who are homeless, or at risk of homelessness. Read here about all the supported accommodation which includes emergency housing, temporary accommodation, short and medium stay supported housing. Also the non accommodation based support work that focusses on mental health, employment support and much more.

Young people can live in more than one Backup service as they make progress and develop more independence prior to moving on completely. The different services are designed to meet various levels and ranges of needs.

Our Events

Every year Backup delivers multiple events for fundraising. Each one is designed to raise awareness and much needed money to support young people who are homeless. Annually we have our core events; Gala Ball, Golf Day and Ladies Lunch. We also have other events that are different each year so that we can have a wider appeal to all.
