How To Refer To Backup

Aged 16 or 17

All referrals are now to be made via the Integrated Front Door (IFD) team. (It used to be the Leaving Care Team at The Base but this changed from 1st April 2022)

Referrals from professionals are to be made using the online referral form which can be found here Worried about a child? – Bolton Council Any social work team within Bolton MBC can refer a young person to Backup on this link.

The form needs to be completed with as much information as possible and with the consent of the young person to help triage each case as quickly and effectively as possible.

If a young person themselves (or someone connected to them that isn’t a professional) wishes to self-refer, they can do this by calling 01204 331500, selecting Option 2 on the line to speak to a social worker.

Alternatively, they can present in person at the Castle Hill Centre, Castleton Street, Bolton BL2 2JW and request to speak to the duty social worker within the IFD.

During the triage process, if IFD establish that the young person does not have any family or friends with whom they can stay with, they will complete a referral to Backup.

If you are not sure please ring Backup 01204 520183 and someone will talk you through the options and process.

NB; This referral process is for any young person who is Under 18 and homeless in Bolton. It does not apply to those who are being supported by the Local Authority Care System and are at risk of homelessness, they will still be assisted by the Leaving Care Team.

Aged 18 to 24

Contact the Housing Options Team as your starting point. They are based in the One Stop Shop on the ground floor of Bolton Town Hall.
