Backup Ladies Lunch raises £8,000 to support young homeless across Bolton.
180 women from Bolton and beyond laughed their way through the afternoon on 7th November to raise much needed funds to support young people in crisis. Rivington Hall Barn was the idyllic autumn setting for the event with shopping, great food and company. The event was sponsored by Try Booking, Boo Coaching and Consulting, PM Business Support and The Feather Fixer.
Entertainment was provided by the internationally known comedic ventriloquist Nina Conti who had the audience howling laughing when she brought guests on stage to wear her iconic masks. Maura Jackson CEO of the Backup charity was the host.
Nina was treated to a culinary delight from Ye Olde Pastie Shoppe as Marie Walsh (a Backup Guardian) delivered a handmade and personalised pastie for her. Nina said she’d only been to Bolton once before over 30 years ago and thought the people here were funny and friendly.
The funds will all go to purchase vital items for young people between now and Christmas including clothing, a coat, food, ID and toiletries because many of those referred arrive without any of these necessities or means to buy them. None of the money raised is spent on running costs or staffing – it all goes directly to young people.
The event also included a fun fashion show with 3 models who are current or previous residents of Backup and the 3 young women were modelling clothes with Maura from Curvilicious in Farnworth and Button Boutique from Horwich. This always brings an uplifting element to the event knowing that direct users of the Backup services are enjoying it too and building their own confidence.
Backup North West accommodate and support 106 young people who are homeless at any one time across Bolton, supporting almost 400 every year.
BACKUP provide multiple services across Bolton to young people aged 16-25 years who are homeless, or at risk of homelessness.
