Volunteering at BACKUP

Volunteering at BACKUP

Being a BACKUP volunteer will make a HUGE difference to the lives of young people.

Whether it's looking to gain new experience, develop your career, or just give up some of your free time, there are lots of volunteering opportunities available within BACKUP.

Besides giving up your valuable free time for free, when you volunteer at BACKUP you will be using your talent and skills to help the charity tackle homelessness among young people.

BACKUP Volunteers:

  • help with the delivery of our services;
  • act as mentors and ‘buddies’ to the young people we support;
  • are active in projects and community-led activities;
  • help raise funds to support our work

in a number of different ways. You could:

  • help to deliver Support Work at one of our Schemes.
  • Act as a ‘Buddy’ to a young person.
  • Act as a Peer Mentor and pass on what you’ve learnt and the mistakes you’ve made.
  • Work as an Assistant on our mobile coffee van.
  • Work as a Business Support Assistant.

And if you’re a student, you could complete your

  • Social Work student placement

  • Counselling and Cognitive Behavioural (CBT) student placement

with us.

How to Volunteer

Don’t’ worry if you have no experience or qualifications – we will provide it ! All you need is a desire to help disadvantaged young people reach their potential and an interest in BACKUP.

If you want to find out more, email and ask for our booklet that outlines the different volunteering roles we have in place.

Don’t forget - fundraising is a brilliant way for you to donate your time to us and have some fun while doing it

We also have Volunteering Opportunities available on our Social Enterprise Coffee Van, which you can read more about here.

What We Do!

BACKUP provide multiple services across Bolton to young people aged 16-25 years who are homeless, or at risk of homelessness. Read here about all the supported accommodation which includes emergency housing, temporary accommodation, short and medium stay supported housing. Also the non accommodation based support work that focusses on mental health, employment support and much more.

Young people can live in more than one Backup service as they make progress and develop more independence prior to moving on completely. The different services are designed to meet various levels and ranges of needs.

Our Events

Every year Backup delivers multiple events for fundraising. Each one is designed to raise awareness and much needed money to support young people who are homeless. Annually we have our core events; Gala Ball, Golf Day and Ladies Lunch. We also have other events that are different each year so that we can have a wider appeal to all.
