Safeguarding Statement

Everything we do and believe at Backup is about keeping young people safe. The foundation of all our practice is safeguarding which is primarily across service delivery to young vulnerable adults but also in our fundraising, business and organisational activity. Backup has numerous policies and practices that safeguard the young people we have a duty of care for including:-

  • Safeguarding for adults policy
  • Safeguarding for children policy
  • Code of Conduct
  • Anti Bullying and Harrassment
  • Safer Recruitment Policies
  • Whistleblowing Policy
  • Complaints and Compliments Policy
  • Domestic Abuse Policy
  • Suicide and Self Harm Policy
  • Health and Safety Policies
  • Financial Controls Policy

All colleagues are recruited subject to references and enhanced DBS checks. All Trustees and Volunteers subject to basic DBS checks and all contractors or suppliers in our sites and buildings are expected to adhere to the same Code of Conduct as our colleagues. Backup will support and seek prosecution of anyone that commits a crime against the charity e.g abuse of a colleague or theft.

Every complaint is logged and acted upon.

All low level safeguarding concerns are recorded

Bolton MBC Processes

Backup adheres to all best practice as required by Bolton MBC safeguarding processes, the Charity Commission and Government legislation.

All colleagues and Trustees are trained in recognition and response to all safeguarding concerns including physical, sexual, financial, coercion, bullying, emotional, risk to self and others and on line issues. We will act to safeguard any young person or vulnerable adult regardless of whether they are one of service users, associates, relatives or one of our colleagues. We take a holistic approach to riskmanagement and young people experiencing homelessness are at extra risk of self harm and harm from others, repeat homelessness, mental ill health and exploitation. All our services and support programmes are designed to tackle and prevent this.

The service models and accommodation are also secure and safe to ensure young people are protected within their temporary homes.

Please find here our 2 main Safeguarding Policy and Procedure Documents but if you need any of the others listed please contact us and they can be sent to you.

What We Do!

BACKUP provide multiple services across Bolton to young people aged 16-25 years who are homeless, or at risk of homelessness. Read here about all the supported accommodation which includes emergency housing, temporary accommodation, short and medium stay supported housing. Also the non accommodation based support work that focusses on mental health, employment support and much more.

Young people can live in more than one Backup service as they make progress and develop more independence prior to moving on completely. The different services are designed to meet various levels and ranges of needs.
